Q&A with Frooglly Designers
Q: I am getting my house ready to sell, how do I go about choosing a good neutral paint color that is inviting to all tastes?
Good question! With an abundance of neutral colors available, it can get challenging!
The first thing to do when picking out a perfect color is to go to your local paint store or Home Depot. There you will find lots of swatches with different colors on them. Collect a few to take home and try. They are free to take and will give you a better idea of which one you want to choose once you get them in your home.
We recommend leaving with at least 3 or 4.
Hold them up in the natural light and see which one favors your decor best. You really can’t go wrong with neutral colors. It’s all what you prefer.
Some of our favorite tried and true colors are:
Gray tones: for walls
Benjamin Moore Glass Slipper – bluish gray
Behr: Classic Silver-a good go-to for any room
Benjamin Moore Horizon 1478: this color blends beautifully with both warm and cool colors, wood trims
Behr: soft pebble – Home Depot
White tones: for walls
Benjamin Moore Linen White: this is great in any room-very light and airy
Glidden: Meeting House White – Home Depot
Beige tones: for walls
Benjamin Moore: Grant Beige HC-83: works well with modern & traditional spaces
Behr: Sculptor Clay – Home Depot
Glidden: Papyrus Paper – Home Depot
Benjamin Moore: Papaya 957-fabulous neutral color – great for bedrooms-great choice for every room
When you have picked your color, measure your space and take the color and measurements to the paint store. If you are going to DIY, then ask the sales manager how much paint you will need based on your measurements. They will ask you what finish you like and show you samples of the different sheens. We recommend eggshell or semi gloss on walls. Semi-gloss or high gloss on trim & cabinets. Always use latex as it is quick to dry and somewhat odorless. If you are repainting trim, a safe bet for everyone’s taste would be white.
There are countless shades of white.
Some of our favorite whites for trim are:
Benjamin Moore: 967 White.
Behr: Beach House BWC 04
Behr: White 52
Glidden: Dove White
Hope this answers your question. Happy painting!
